How to Best Use Rosemary: 6 Different Herbal Uses

Herbal medicine has been around for thousands of years. While we have had advances in medication, we had to start somewhere. Even today the use of herbal medicine is still widely used to help with ailments and illnesses.

While working in a supplement shop part-time, it allowed me some time to do more research on different herbal supplements. I like to have a healthy amount of skepticism when it comes to learning something new and I try to research anything that catches my interest. I became a believer when I had a wave of nausea, which I can get often, and regular over-the-counter medications don’t help for very long.

My manager took me to the homeopathic section, and I found the remedy for the kind of nausea I was having. I bought it and then took it right there. Within 15 minutes the nausea was starting to ease. Within 30 minutes it had completely gone away. My stomach started growling and I had an appetite again, and the nausea did not come back. I was sold after that.

While herbs occur naturally, this does not mean they cannot have adverse effects, such as an allergic reaction, or directly affect medications you are taking, this is especially true if you are pregnant **

Here are six herbal uses for rosemary:

Circulatory Stimulant

Rosemary is known as a warming tonic remedy that can help stimulate blood flow, especially in those with low blood pressure.  It can also be helpful for those who have fainting and weakness for those who have circulatory issues.

Alleviate Stress

Rosemary has been given to people who have been through a long-term illness or a chronic illness to help with stress. It is said to be helpful for mild to moderate depression. (Please do not ever stop taking mental health medications without the guidance of a doctor, and there is nothing wrong with taking medications that help.)

Relieving aching muscles

When applied as a lotion or diluting a rosemary essential oil, it can help relieve aching muscles. (Before putting anything on your skin, try a small spot first to make sure it is not going to irritate it, this is especially true when diluting essential oils.)

Migraines

Rosemary can help with the symptoms of migraines. You can make it into tea by soaking the leaves in hot water and then straining it.  (If migraines persist and are constant, please consult a doctor.)

PMS Relief

Adding the herb rosemary or the essential oil to a warm bath and soaking in it can also be beneficial. Since the scent of rosemary is a way to reduce stress and help with aching muscles, it would be a good combination for PMS symptoms.

Improve and Strengthen Memory

Rosemary essential oil used in a diffuser, or the herb burned as incense is a way to surround yourself with the herbs’ earthy aroma. It is still used today by students while they study for important quizzes. (Always make sure that using a diffuser or incense will not harm any furry, scaled, or feathered pets in the area.)

Sometimes there is relief from ailments just sitting in our spice cabinets. While it may not be a miracle cure or the answer for every single illness or pain, it can at least point us in the right direction for some form of relief. I believe that both Eastern and Western medicine, when used in the right way, can be beneficial for everyone.
